I read a great line somewhere recently that said ‘We spend all our health while making money - and then have to spend all our money to regain our health.”
America has 76 million baby boomers. Did you know that we are turning 50 at a rate of one every eight seconds? And did you know that a HUGE percentage of folks doing business online today are in that age group?
Well, I don’t know about you. I want to be a success in my business, but I do NOT want to be one of those harried, stressed-out executives that has no energy, a constant headache - or worse — a heart condition, or high blood pressure. And while we are, as a nation, taking better care of our health than ever before, there’s still a long way to go.
So in order to take care of business, I’ve learned how important it is to take care of ME, and I’d like to pass on a few of my secrets …
ENERGY LEVEL
Do you often find yourself looking for a quick boost to help you get through the day? Many of us turn to a chocolate bar or a second cup of coffee, when what we really need to do is step away from the computer, go outside and take ten deep, satisfying breaths - restoring the level of life-enhancing oxygen to our brains immediately.
If you are on a tight deadline, and really can’t afford to take the time, try energizing with natural ingredients. Next time you find yourself yawning over the keyboard, try anything rich in carbohydrates, B-complex vitamins, vitamin C or amino acids- these are all energy-boosting options.
STRESS MANAGEMENT
Everybody has stress in life, especially small business owners — but some of us respond better to it than others. If you are a person who can channel deadlines and other pressures into motivation, then stress will give you the extra energy and drive you need to get through tough spots.
But if you handle it poorly, stress can negatively impact your health - and therefore your business. To protect yourself from potentially harmful long-term effects, look into relaxation techniques, or burn off some extra energy by doing regular physical exercise. You may also benefit from specific homeopathic and herbal ingredients designed to help manage stress.
MEMORY
Healthy brain function can be affected by poor diet, lack of adequate sleep or exercise, stress, injury, illness, and excessive alcohol and sugar intake. Pay close attention to how any of these things are affecting your ability to remember important details. If you find you need to provide additional nourishment for healthy brain function and memory, the B vitamins and amino acids are key. Nutritional supplementation may play an important role here, too — ginkgo biloba and cat’s claw, for example, are known to support memory and mental function.
MENTAL WELL-BEING
Your brain is the ‘hard drive’ of your entire body, controlling involuntary tasks such as your heartbeat, breathing, reflexes and blinking. It contains millions of nerve cells that send and receive messages through the activity of chemical messengers called neurotransmitters. To help promote mental well-being, eat a well-balanced diet, exercise regularly, learn more ways to combat stress, and moderate your intake of alcohol and sugar.
Taking care of you will not only nourish your body, it will reward your senses - and pay business dividends, in the long run!

YOU CAN’T TAKE IT WITH YOUPaul Bilek
Making money is cool. Very cool. But the fact is that you
can’t take it with you. As we live in the Information Age
we must learn new skills AND take advantage of new
technologies to maximize our productivity.
We’re not working at the car factory any more.
First let me say this very clearly. I am NOT your Mother
nor am I trying to put any guilt trips on you. But here’s
a FACT. You will work better and achieve your goals faster
if you are healthy and maintain that health. Not preaching,
just practical.
There are some simple things you can do to improve yourself
or to PREVENT losing your good health. And hey, if you are
in your 20’s and think you are indestructible, look around
at the 40 or 50 somethings. You’re heading there too.
The first thing we can do is TAKE BREAKS from the computer.
The Net is 24/7, you don’t HAVE to be. If you find yourself
saying I’ll catch up on my sleep on the weekends you’re
kidding yourself. Walk away for a few minutes every hour or so.
Good break habits today mean you can do more work tomorrow,
whatever your work might be, and make more money.
The second thing is to avoid caffeine ADDICTION. The fact
is that many of us use caffeine as a little pick me up and
that’s OK from time to time. But when it becomes a lifestyle,
WATCH OUT. Caffeine does lots of nasty things to your body
if you get too much of it. Just use common sense and you
should be good to go.
Third, use antioxidants. The world is changing every day.
And the only advancements in TECHNOLOGY have not been in the
microchip! We now produce more potent vitamins and minerals
than ever AND we know a lot more about what our bodies need.
And I’m not talking about swallowing 100 pills a day either.
Don’t live in a PIII world and take a 286 vitamin.
Fourth and last, we can do some moderate exercise. Yeah, I
hear the boos. But hey, walk away from the keyboard once in
a while and past the soda machine. There’s a world out there.
Get into it. Do something that you enjoy and is good for you.
Your waist size is not the only measure of good health.
Fitness counts too.
If you are in great shape now …. EXCELLENT! Make sure to
review what you are doing from time to time and stay up to
speed on what’s happening now. If you need to improve
that’s no problem. Start where you can and in no time your
productivity and clear thinking will amaze you. GO FOR THE
GOLD in your career, just make sure you can enjoy what you earn.

WHAT TO DO ABOUT STRESS - THE 30 POINT PLANCraig Lock
WHAT TO DO ABOUT STRESS - THE 30 POINT PLAN
By Craig Lock
1. Be positive- see problems as opportunities. Have goals and
visions. Have a positive mental attitude.
2. Play sports and step up your exercise.
3. Talk things over with someone.
4. Determine what causes you stress and try to eliminate it.
5. Become physically fit.
6. Balance work, home/family and recreation.
7. Enjoy your play and relaxation- it is precious time! Learn to
delegate- don’t try to do everything yourself.
8. Get adequate sleep and rest
9. Allow yourself some relaxation and meditation time every day.
10. Learn relaxation techniques: systematic ways to relax.
11. Give yourself time to think.
12. Know your limits and your symptoms of stress…and how to relieve
them. Learn to say ‘no’ to others’ excessive demands on you. Don’t
say “yes” when you mean “no”.
13. “Coast” if necessary.
14. Worry only about that which can be changed by you. I like the
quotation which goes something like this: “Accept that which cannot be
changed by you and let God give me the wisdom to know the difference.”
15. Use your imagination to reduce your stress levels. Be creative.
16. Learn to switch off thinking about work when you get home.
17. Think about your diet and eat nutritious food.
18. Learn to plan your time better.
19. Learn to recognize and to accept your limitations as well as the
limitations (and faults) of others.
20. Learn to have FUN: you must be able to enjoy your work.
21. Learn to praise others and be positive,
22. Learn to tolerate and to forgive.
23. Learn to avoid unnecessary competition: you don’t have to be the
best at everything.
24. Learn to confide in others.
25. Learn to accept what can’t be changed in others, eg..
personality or decisions.
26. Learn to accept that some things aren’t as important to others as
they are to you.
27. Learn to delegate.
28. Learn to recognize stress. Do not become so accustomed to feeling
stress that it becomes a normal part of your life.
29. Have trust in other people.
And finally, no matter how stressful or hopeless your situation may
appear to be…
30. Have FAITH IN YOURSELF AND ESPECIALLY IN GOD, the Universe that things will
eventually work out for you. Just know that HE/SHE has a plan for your
life and it is to do good deeds and be STRESS-FREE and HAPPY.

“Pay The Piper”Bob Osgoodby
Let’s face it, most people enjoy cardiovascular exercise as much as a visit to the their oral surgeon - or - spending the weekend with their in-laws. Most people’s idea of the perfect cardiovascular exercise program is walking from the bedroom to the bathroom. If you want to decrease your body fat percentage, get ripped, and have your waist, legs, and rear end look like a million dollars, there is no substitution for cardio - but it doesn’t have to be boring and a major chore you hate.
Select cardiovascular exercises that you enjoy doing. If you hate to run, it is going to be very hard for you to get up every morning at 6:00 AM and run for 30 minutes. Choose an exercise that you enjoy doing. Walking, crawling, jogging, running, bicycling, stairmaster, nordic ski machine, cross trainer, rowing, swimming, aerobics, trampoline, martial arts, dance, basketball, soccer, fencing, gymnastics, sex, and mud wrestling are just a few of the hundreds of exercises that will take your heart rate and keep it in the fat burning zone for what ever time is appropriate for your present condition. If you enjoy a certain activity, you are more likely to do it on a routine basis. Select exercises that are good for you.
Cardiovascular exercise provides you with a multitude of benefits. It increases your metabolic rate which burns body fat, increases blood flow to your brain and major organs, improves digestion, reduces stress, increases alertness, and boosts your immune system.
Research supports that getting your cardiovascular exercise out of the way, first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach is best for fat burning. Some sources state that you can burn up to 3 times as much fat per hour exercising on an empty stomach. There are several medical conditions including hypoglycemia which would be a contraindication from you doing any type of exercise on an empty stomach. That is why it is imperative that you have a comprehensive medical examination before starting any cardiovascular exercise program.
I realize cardiovascular exercise can be boring, but there are several things that you can do to make it more enjoyable, and also make it seem to go by faster. If you go to any up-scale health club today, there is a television set in front of every cardiovascular station. Television, radio, and educational audio tape series all help keep your mind focused on something other than the chore at hand.
Don’t waste this valuable time staring in space. Learn Spanish, French, or Japanese. Catch up on the latest marketing tips in your field of expertise. Lose yourself in the latest audio romance series by your favorite author. Learn how to be a better mother, father, lover or Bridge player. Study trivia just in case one day, you come face to face with Regis. Slap on a Walkman and listen to whatever interests you. You will be amazed how quickly your cardiovascular exercise will be over. Sometimes, you will find yourself spending five, ten, even twenty minutes more time exercising because you are caught up in what you are listening to.
There have been many times I have been amazed that thirty minutes have gone by because I have been pre-occupied with something else, and not watching the seconds tick away on the treadmill or stairmaster. Listen to something you really enjoy.
Regular cardiovascular exercise is not something that comes natural to most people unless you are already a fanatic. When I first started training, I hated doing cardio. It takes a little time, but just like anything else, if you do it long enough, it becomes part of your daily routine. Your day won’t feel complete unless you have done it. Kind of like a morning without orange juice. Plus, cardiovascular exercise releases endorphins into your system which will give you a natural high and make you feel great. This kind of high doesn’t cost you $1,000.00 a week, give you nose bleeds, make you cough, or destroy your brain, liver or lungs.
