AYSO is mostly operated at regional levels by volunteer teams, administrators, coaches and referees, whose children or little loved ones are the youth they are coaching. 50 paid employees consists the AYSO National Support and Training Center (NSTC), based in Hawthorne, California which grant programs for instruction of coaches and referees and child protection education to AYSO Volunteers. AYSO Soccer is also associated with the United States Soccer Foundation. Hans Stierle founded AYSO in 1964. Stierle structured youth soccer games for the Los Angeles Soccer Club, a German club in North Hollywood that matched other local cultural clubs which are mostly Europeans. AYSO consider five fundamental philosophies: Everyone Plays. Each child in each team is obliged to play at least one-half of each game.
