There is the “concept of defending” and the “skills of defending”. Here, we will take a brief look at some of the concepts and thoughts. While we don’t want to start teaching 9 year olds about the thirds of the field, it does help expose them to the theory that we act or behave differently in these areas. A simple explanation about the field being three parts is good enough for any age. The defensive third has its own set of rules. We should follow the rules at all times. Rule 1: We are not trying to win the ball; we are trying to protect the goal. Defenders often get “beaten” because they STAB or reach in trying to win the ball from an attacker. The Origins of Basketball. Soccer Sweet Spots - Royal Blue ###############################################################################################################################################################################################################################################################

The origins of the game of basketball can be traced back to a gentleman by the name of Dr. James Naismith. In 1861, Naismith was born in Almonte, Ontario, Canada. During his early school days, Naismith would play a game called duck on a rock whereby the child would endeavor to knock the duck off the top of the rock with a toss of another rock.

Later on, Naismith would go on to McGill University in Montreal and would later become McGill Universitys Athletic Director. He would subsequently move on to YMCA Training School in Springfield, Massachusetts and in 1891, the game of basketball began.

The Ball is Round: A Global History of Soccer

The Ball is Round: A Global History of Soccer The Ball is Round: A Global History of Soccer The definitive book about soccer. With a new foreword for the American edition.

There may be no cultural practice more global than soccer. Rites of birth and marriage are infinitely diverse, but the rules of soccer are universal. No world religion can match its geographical scope. The single greatest simultaneous human collective experience is the World Cup final.

In this extraordinary tour de force, David Goldblatt tells the full story of soccer’s rise from chaotic folk ritual to the world’s most popular sport-now poised to fully establish itself in the USA. Already celebrated internationally, The Ball Is Round illuminates soccer’s role in the political and social histories of modern societies, but never loses sight of the beauty, joy, and excitement of the game itself.

Goal!: The Ultimate Guide for Soccer Moms and Dads

Goal!: The Ultimate Guide for Soccer Moms and Dads Goal!: The Ultimate Guide for Soccer Moms and Dads Soccer, the most popular sport in the world, is scoring big with schoolchildren in the United States. In fact, the growth of youth soccer in this country over the past decade has been nothing short of astounding. Yet, despite the rapidly increasing numbers of American kids participating in soccer, there has been no book addressing the concerns and questions of a soccer family–until now.

This pioneering volume begins by answering parents’ basic question:
-How do I chose the right soccer team for my child?
-What equipment does my child need, and how much will it cost?
-How do I know if my child is being coached properly?
-How can I learn the finer points of the game?

But the book goes beyond these fundamentals, covering:
-Nutrition and hydration for young athletes
-Improving soccer skills
-Conditioning and stretching
-Meeting your athlete’s nutritional needs
-Moving to higher levels of soccer competition
-Special concerns for girls
-Being a supportive fan and parent

The book’s two authors, one a devoted “soccer mom” and the other an accomplished professional player and coach, offer unique insights into all aspects of the sport, creating the definitive reference for millions of soccer parents nationwide.
Customer Review: Remember Who’s Playing The Game
If I had one wish for all the adults out there who watch and coach kids playing soccer, it would be for them to understand and abide by the topics covered in the chapter “They Play to Have Fun.” It might seem obvious but adults sometimes forget that everyone, especially kids, learn faster, easier, and better when they’re having a good time. The entire book is full of excellent information (the best I’ve read) but this chapter alone makes it worth buying.
Customer Review: At last, a guide for parents who didn’t grow up with soccer
My 7-year-old son has been playing soccer for 2 years now and I’m just now getting the hang of soccer. Not having grown up with it, like most of the parents I know, I didn’t even know the basics of the game. Goal has just what I needed. Information about rules, appropriate skills for each age, how to find a great coach, what to feed my kid so he doesn’t tire out, how to find a camp, the best clothes to wear. This book has been a godsend. Now I know when to cheer at his games.
